As it often does, Facebook recently reminded me of an important anniversary – 2 years ago, The SpitfireMom Society launched! In looking over our collective network of friends, colleagues and clients, we realized there were stories that needed to be shared. You see, there’s a certain magic, and comedy, to the chaos of being a working mother…I jokingly refer to it as the “juggle and hustle.”
Since then, SpitfireMom has had lots of changes. Our team has contracted and expanded. I’m proud to say we’ve featured over 50 moms – from celebrity photographer Elizabeth Messina, lifestyle icon Joy Cho, to women’s writer Meg Conley; and special needs advocate Amy Webb. We’ve created over 125 posts – from Find Work/Life Balance Through Partnership, Midlife Awakening, to our favorite products and business tips. We’ve organized them all on this site, covering our key topics of Work, Family, The Spitfiremoms, and You.
Two years in, our core mission is still the same – share and celebrate the juggle and hustle of being a working mother. What’s changed is how and sometimes how often we share it! What I’ve learned on this journey is that I’m passionate about the idea, and less diligent about the execution of it. Truth be told, I had (and still have) lofty goals for SpitfireMom.
The reality of course, is that takes time. LOTS of time. And even with a dedicated team, and a growing list of contributors, I find myself floundering in a list of to-dos longer than I can ever accomplish. I have my design studio, Spitfiregirl; a new consulting business – Your Digital Stylists (launching soon!), two small children, and lingering health concerns that always keep me on my toes. In short, I’m dealing with the juggle and hustle, just like you.
So two years in, I’m writing to tell you SpitfireMom is still here! While we may take pause from time to time, it’s not for a lack of passion or purpose. In the coming weeks and months we have new contributors – excited to share their own story of how they get it all done, a few fun giveaways, and of course – new interviews with creative, passionate women who are killing it in their businesses and somehow balancing work and family. And we also want to hear from you. What do you want to see featured on Spitfiremom? Do you want to contribute to the conversation? Please, let us know.
If you’ve been with us since the beginning, THANK YOU. If you’re just finding us now, THANK YOU! I’m humbled everyday that I’m able to share my passion, OUR passion with you. Here’s to sisterhood and motherhood. Who runs the world? WE DO!
